Since it’s the anniversary of Dean and Castiel’s first meeting when Castiel raised Dean from Hell, it seemed appropriate to do a list of some of the best Destiel fics this fandom has to offer, sorted by type of fic and setting, as a celebration. So here goes.

The Breath of All Things by KismetJeska (AU): Dean’s in a wheelchair and suffering depression from his lack of mobility, Castiel is a worker at the care home where Dean’s staying who does his best to help Dean take pleasure in life again.

Castiel’s vessel is destroyed so he is forced to possess Sam. As the two of them work out an arrangement for sharing their body, Dean and Castiel are forced to renegotiate their relationship.

My Roots Take Flight by KismetJeska: Dean is made a guardian angel by Heaven to pay his dues for them freeing him from Hell. Castiel is his charge. Cue a new version of S4 with Cas and Sam hunting together and Dean forced to watch over them, rendered invisible by his new abilities. It’s about as heart-breaking as it sounds. Bonus points for an awesome version of Ruby and an even creepier Heaven than canon.
Every Man’s Got the Right by MollyC: Endverse!Castiel gets transported back in time to join S2 Dean and Sam. Reimagined S2 with Cas trying to help them stop the Apocalypse before it can even get started.
Putting the ‘Christian’ in Hans Christian Anderson by strangeandcharm: Castiel gives up his voice and wings to save Dean from Hell.
Domesticated by kototyph: Castiel works as an animal carer at a wildlife centre, an undercover angel. Dean shows up, having been transformed into a lion as part of a witch’s spell. Part “Beauty and the Beast”, part alternate canon animal transformation fic.
Down to Agincourt by seperis: A series exploring what happened in Camp Chitaqua after the events of “The End”, made all the more interesting by the sudden appearance of S7 Dean.

The Great Escapist by 8sword: Dean and Castiel get to know each other whilst being roommates for a summer, centered around them both working at the same health clinic. Castiel meanwhile has to deal with his grief over his brother Alfie’s death and what his father Chuck has written about them in his Supernatural book series.
All the Way by cadignan, Guu: College AU featuring massive misunderstandings and a load of Song of Songs quotes, not to mention awesome female characters.

Welcome to the Hunter_Bros Comm by Yalu: A load of the Supernatural characters on lj involved in the fandom of an alternate version of the TV show Supernatural, about two brothers played by Lucifer and Michael. It’s a lot less confusing than it sounds. Definite must for anyone who has spent any time on lj.
listen to me there needs to be an episode where sam and dean swap bodies because
- dean not used to working sams long legs so he keeps bumping his head into things and getting in the impala is such a hassle and he gets so frustrated
- dean making jokes that hes finally taller than sam again tho
- sam going for runs in deans body and putting healthy food in him while dean does the exact opposite to him and imagine the arguments about that
- sams hair getting in deans face and him getting so frustrated that he tries to cut it off but sam gives him puppy eyes even in deans body so he just ties it back instead (jared with a ponytail cmon)
- it would be really fucking funny to see jared and jensen swap roles and try to be the others character imagine the gag reel ok
- sam trying to act like dean and dean trying to act like sam around other people
- it would be so great please writers make it canon
Dean goes into the bathroom in Sams body for the first time and after a few seconds you just hear him yell “Son of a bitch!” and Sam just smirks
